scratching for divinity

standing in dilapidated homes,

making memories of foreign dreams,
scraping through the frozen lake
that is her mind.
shattered ice like scalpels
exposes the reality of her existence
as she continues her sad attempt,
groping to tear through
like a starving emaciation
desperately digging in garbage.
her hands,
as if animals writhing around
in tangled barbed wire,
fling the red
which filled the rivers inside her flesh.
it melts the ice like acid,
giving a heartbeat to the cracks
that have been hiding in death for so long;
then soaks through,
spreading like cancer cells,
running like the color bars of an iris.
scarlet ribbons now flow
inside frost bitten viens,
and there she kneels, still,
frantically clawing through knives.
